Case Study - 50kW on Commercial Roof

Rotary Engineering UK Ltd decided to install at 50kW system on their factory roof. With a projected payback of 8 years and rising energy prices, Rotary Engineering UK Ltd saw the opportunity to create a ‘landmark’ installation to prove their commitment to renewable energy.

Before conducting any work on the roof we commissioned a structural survey to make sure that the roof was able to support the extra weight of the panels. The structural surveyors made sure that the roof was able to sustain with the extra weight of the panels. Once this process had been completed, the system design could commence.

The system design was done using 3D CAD software; this allowed the team to see how the panels would fit on the roof.

The system comprised of 70 RealForce 235 Wp, 70  SolarWATT 235 Wp, 70 Epolly 235 Wp mounted on Montavent mount system.

System Size

49.95kW

Predicted Annual Energy Generation

41,138

Number of panels

210

Number of inverters

3 SMA 17000

Wards Roofing Contractors Ltd installed the mounting system onto the roof, allowing Rotary Renewables to focus on their core skill set.  The panels are split into three 1700 SMA inverters to monitor the performance of each separate brand of panel. A SMA Sunny Webbox was also installed to allow the monitoring of the system.

There is now a fully function ‘showroom’ where potential customers can visit and see the inverters and how the system was installed. It also gives customers an opportunity to discuss solar panel options and discuss how the panels are performing.

Robert Fennell, Managing Director of Rotary Engineering UK Ltd said:  “We decided to invest in solar panels because we want to bring electricity costs down and invest in green technology. Knowing that we are doing the right thing for planet was important to us. The price of electricity is set to rise, so solar has the opportunity to reduce to the overheard burden on our business.”

We welcome you to contact us to arrange a visit to view the control room and our solar panel installation.
